Textbook development using genre-based approach

Abstract

Writing is considered as a difficult skill for the students. they often have no idea about what they are going to write. They have difficulties in integrating ideas and organizing the structure properly. An appropriate approach is needed so solve the students’ difficulties. Genre-based approach provides step by step procedures in writing. This approach guides students to produce better a piece of writing. This research aims to develop genre based approach handout for teaching writing as supplement of English materials for the students of eleventh grades. The media developed was validated by material expert and media expert. The results showed: 1) The media expert validation got an average score of 4.23 (very good), 2) The material validation got a score of 4.5 (very good). It is concluded that the development handout by using Genre-Based Approach is validated as supplement for teaching writing for the students of Eleventh Grades of SMA Darut Taqwa Purwosari Pasuruan
