This study aims to analyze the legal mechanism of verstek verdicts in lawsuit divorce cases at the Purbalingga Regency Religious Court, especially in the context of the absence of the defendant (husband) in the trial process. A verstek verdict is a verdict that is rendered without the presence of one of the parties, in this case the husband, who has been legally summoned but is absent without a valid reason as well. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, where data is collected through interviews, observations, and document studies. The results of the study show that the procedure for implementing verstek decisions at the Purbalingga Regency Religious Court is in accordance with the provisions of civil procedural law and procedural law in religious courts. However, the application of this law also presents ethical and social dilemmas, especially related to justice for the defendant who does not follow the trial process. This study recommends improving the quality of the submission of summonses and strengthening legal education to the public so that all parties understand their rights and obligations in the legal process. Thus, the resulting verdict is not only legally valid, but also socially and humanely just.
