EFFECTIVENESS AND KINETICS ADSORPTION OF BORON METAL ON PAPER INDUSTRY LIQUID WESTE USING CHITOSAN FROM Lithopannaeus vannamei AS ADSORBENT

Abstract

The study was conducted to know effectiveness and kinetics adsorption boron metal using chitosan as adsorbent by variation of difference in mass of adsorbent which is 0.1; 0.3; 0.6; 0.9 grams and contacting time is 10, 20, 30 and 40 minutes. This study began with preparation of chitosan from shrimp shell (Lithopannaeus vannamei): deproteination stage using 1 N NaOH, demineralization stage using 2 N HCl to obtain chitin powder, and then followed by chitin deacetylation stage using 60 % NaOH to produce an anime that is chitosan. The chitosan obtained was characterized and analysed functional group with FTIR. Based on calculations from the resulting chitosan FTIR data has a degrees of deacetylation 76 %. The concentration initial and final of paper industry liquid waste was analyzed using ICP-OES. The adsorption was performed by contacting adsorbent with sample is based on contacting time and mass of adsorbent. Based on the result, the highest Boron metal absorption percentage can be obtained from chitosan that is 67,47 % at 0,9 gram adsorbent weight with 40 minute contact time an adsorption kinetics at 0,1; 0,3; 0,6 and 0,9 grams following the zero order kinetics model.
