GENETIC EVALUATION OF BOER SIRE BASED ON PERFORMANCE OF ITS CROSSES WITH LOCAL GOATS
Abstract
Crossbreeding is one method of genetic improvement in increasing the productivity in short period. Boer goat is selected to improve the productivity of local Kacang goats because this goat has large body formation and adaptable to various environmental conditions. The research was conducted to evaluate genetic potency of Boer sire based on performance of its crosses with local goat at UPT Agriscience Technopark UNISLA. Material used were 8 males and 11 females of crossbreed Boer with Local Goat. Variables observed were body weight at birth and weaning. Data on birth weight (BW) and weaning weight (WW) were analyzed by analysis of variance of Completely Randomized Design for one way lay out. Difference of mean were analyzed by Duncant’s Multiple Range Test. BW of crossbreed Boer with local goat was 2,525 + 0,91 kg for male and 2,16 + 0,56 kg for female. WW was 10,67 + 4,57 kg for male and 8,36 + 2,34 kg for female.
