Abstract

Several microorganisms grow in oral cavity that are continuously involved in causing diseases in the mouth. This study was focused on screening antibacterial activity of CH2Cl2 and MeOH extracts from the stems of Dracaena cochinchinensis against Streptococcus sobrinus and Streptococcus mutans was conducted by agar well diffusion method. With 1 mg/mL, CH2Cl2 extract showed excellent activity against S. sobrinus and S. mutans with inhibition zones of 15.7 and 18.3 mm while the inhibition zone of MeOH extract was 14.3 and 17.7 mm, respectively. The antibacterial activity of CH2Cl2 and MeOH extracts against S. sobrinus and S. mutans would be the new report.
