Response of Arabica Coffee Farmers to Climate Change on Ijen Mountain Hill of Bondowoso Regency
Abstract
Arabica coffee is aggressively developed at Ijen Mountain Hill of Bondowoso along with Program of Agriculture Department. Climate change is a threat to Arabica coffee farming because it can have an impact on the decline in the quality and quantity of crops. The Area of Ijen Mountain Hill is a center for developing arabica coffee which is susceptible to climate change. The purpose of this study was to determine the response of Arabica coffee farmers to the threat of climate change seen from the institutional social response, economic response and biophysical response. The research method used is literature study. The results of the study can be explained as follows; 1) institutional social response identified using collective action of farmers consisting of contribution of opinion, contribution of personnel, financial contribution and contribution of attendance to group activities; 2) economic response is identified by the addition of input costs (increase the number of workers, investment in production infrastructure, replant adaptive varieties, increase conservation cost) and reducing input costs (reducing the cost of chemical fertilizers, reducing the cost of herbicides); 3) biophysical response identified from the use of adaptive varieties, use of soil moisture technology, use of shade plants, weed pruning and use of organic fertilizer.
