Abstract

Macaranga hosei is one of the species of Macaranga that widely distributed in tropical forest region including Indonesia. Several compounds from the leaves of this plant with broad spectrum of biological activities have been reported. This study was focus on antiplasmodial activity of four flavanones that have been isolated, named 4´-O-methyl-8-isoprenylnaringenin (1), lonchocarpol A (2), 4´-O-methyl-8-isoprenyleriodictyol (3) and 6-isoprenyleriodictyol (4). The antiplasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 was conducted using Giemsa method. The most active compound was shown by 4 with IC50 value of 0.31 μg/mL, followed by 1, 2 and 3 with IC50 values of 1.02, 1.18 and 2.47 μg/mL, respectively.
