SCREENING OF PROBIOTIC BACTERIA CANDIDATES FROM DIGESTIVE TRACT OF TIDAL SWAMP FISHES

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to isolate and select probiotic bacteria from the digestive tract of the tidal swamp fishes (Channa striata and Anabas testudineus). Sixteen bacteria were successfully isolated and were selected based on their ability to hydrolyze starch, milk, and fat. In the selection phase, 5 bacterial isolates were selected. Re-selection was conducted based on amylolytic, lipolytic, and proteolytic properties. This was followed by other tests, the pathogenicity test, acid-base resistance test, adhesion test, and bacterial growth phase test. This testing phase resulted in 2 bacterial isolates had a good performance and not pathogen for fish, i.e. HPPS3 and HMPS2 bacteria.
