SELECTION OF DOE AND BUCK KID BoerPE FROM CROSS BREEDING BOER AND ETTAWA BASED ON PERFORMANCE OF PHENOTYPE AS A SUPERIOR PARENTAL OF MEAT TYPES GOAT
Abstract
The aim of the research was to select doe and buck kid BoerPE from the results of cross breeding Boer and Ettawa based on phenotypic performance as a superior candidate of parental for meat type goat. This research is an observation research. The collected data were analyzed based on primary data studies, namely phenotypic performance compared to Good Breeding Practice. The materials used were 9 newborn doe and 10 buck kid BoerPE. The parameters measured were phenotypic performance of body size of doe and buck kid BoerPE at three weeks of age which consisted of the increase of body weight, chest circumference, height, body length, ear length and width. The results of measurement showed that the doe kid that met the standards were at numbers: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9, by an average increase of body weight of 1.8 kg/three weeks, chest circumference 36.86 cm, height 36 cm, body length 36 cm, ear length 16 cm and ear width 7.29 cm, while buck kid were on numbers: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9  and 10 with an average increase of body weight 2.81 kg/ three weeks, chest circumference 39.13 cm, body height 42.25 cm, body length 39.13 cm, ear length 17.75 cm and width 6.25 cm, respectively. The results of this study concluded that the potential of doe and buck kid BoerPE as a superior candidate of parental for meat type goat amounted to 15 of 19 individuals selected with the following details: 7 of 9 doe kid and 8 of 10 buck kid.  The results of this study suggest that it need a further research on the age of weaning in terms of phenotypes and genotypes. Key words : Phenotype selection, doe and buck kid BoerPE, candidate of Superior                      parentals, Meat type goat.Â
