TOLERANCE OF WALISONGO’S DA’WAH AS LOCAL WISDOM OF ISLAM NUSANTARA

Abstract

This article aims to study the tolerance of  Walisongo’s da’wah in spreading Islam at Indonesia. In the multi digital era, intolerance is raise up very fast like houses of worship destruction, beatings of religious leaders, and hate spech through social media. It is necessary for the writer to display the model of tolerance of walisongo’s da’wah as the local wisdom of islam Nusantara. The rise of Islam in Indonesia cannot be separated from the existantion of Walisongo. Walisongo is very dominant in the formation of Islamic culture in Indonesia. Walisongo Islamic indigenization teaches tolerance, substance, and cultural awareness in Islamic da'wah. This study apply literature research method, studying from various books and scientific papers. The mind finding in this paper is Walisongo be able to Islamize the land of Java without damaging the culture. Even they can dialogue culture with religion. Such as Sunan Kalijaga is able to interact between religion and culture via wayang, Sunan Bonang via tembang gending, Sunan Giri with lir-ilir song and Sunan Kudus utilize Hindu Buddhist symbols for community proselytizing. Tolerance to local culture is characteristic of the method of walisongo preaching.
