Factors Associated with EFL Engineering Students' Anxiety in Writing
Abstract
Anxiety is familiar to university students which is considered one of the factors that can limit their performance in learning a foreign language. Anxiety is a feeling of discomfort, uneasiness, and nervousness in the process of language learning in the classroom. This study aimed to describe the biggest factors affecting EFL engineering students’ anxiety in writing. Participants of this study were 50 students of an Engineering department at one university in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. To get the data, the researcher delivered a questionnaire to the students and conducted an interview to dig into the data deeper. The finding showed that some factors can affect the students’ anxiety in writing, such as students’ self-efficacy, self-confidence, and many other factors. The researcher gave a suggestion to study the role of gender and age in the future study.
