Abstract

ABSTRACT This study explores the experiences of an East Timorense polyglot who dive to learn English in a non-native country. The study aims to explore the motivations, the development of language learning strategies for Polyglot in learning English, and the importance of a holistic approach to language learning, where exposure to the language in the context of the language is an integral part of the learning process. A qualitative study design was used to collect semi-structured interviews with three informants to gather data. Participant exhibited a diverse array of motivational factors that emerged as a powerful force in language learning. The findings suggest that language educators and policymakers should consider the complex motivations and strategies that underpin the language's richness and diversity.
