Teachers’ Perceptions of Continuing Professional Development: A Study of Vocational High School Teachers in Medan

Abstract

The teacher's perception is useful in Professional Development which is very much in creating a more creative teaching system in the learning process and teaching students and teachers can manage better class conditions. The ability of a teacher greatly influences the teaching system, therefore every teacher must develop his professionalism. This writing aims to find out the perspective of a teacher regarding the development of the professionalism of an English teacher at the high school level. Data collection in this study used qualitative methods which were carried out through questionnaires and semi-construction interviews. The sample for this study consisted of three English teachers at the senior high school level. The results of this study indicate that from both perspectives the English teacher stated the importance of developing teacher competence in order to improve their ability to teach, especially in teaching English.
