Lack of Mastery in Speaking English: Teachers’ Challenges in Teaching English at The Junior High School Level
Abstract
English language learning in Indonesia is often faced with various challenges that make it difficult for students and teachers to achieve fluency in communication. Many English teachers in Indonesia do not have adequate skill to teach the language effectively, including English teachers at Nurul Jadid Islamic boarding school. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the english teachers’ challenges in teaching English at English classes and their strategies to overcome them. This research is qualitative research. The techniques used to collect data in this study were semi-structured interviews and observations to English teachers. To analyze the data, the researcher used descriptive analysis technique. The results showed that speaking English fluently is not really easy for English teachers. In addition, they encountered some problems including lack of confidence, lack of correct pronunciation, lack of acquiring English vocabulary, lack of grammar mastery. The strategies they use are improving vocabulary mastery, utilizing media as additional learning media, using creative games, Improving self-training, talking in front of the mirror.Downloads
